Dogs to follow

Form expert Dale Code has picked out a selection of greyhounds to follow from around Victoria. You may even want to add them to your Blackbook account.

SIR HARLEY
Breeding: Nov ’19 Dundee Osprey x Jacqui Shoshone
Trainer: David Crawford, Pearcedale
Record: 8 starts 3-2-0
Comment: Listed recently as one of the runs of the fortnight WATCH, this dog has always shown a tonne of ability but was a little risky at box rise and was finding trouble in his races. However, at his past two starts he has exploded out of the boxes and recorded commanding back-to-back wins – firstly at Sale in a blistering 24.52sec and then at Cranbourne in a flying 30.10sec.  His run-home times have always been exceptional and now, with a combined ability to add elite first sectional splits to his repertoire, this powerful emerging sprinter is developing a lethal combination of speed and strength that could see him become a star of the future.

“Sir Harley’s run-home times have always been exceptional and now, with a combined ability to add elite first sectional splits to his repertoire, this powerful emerging sprinter is developing a lethal combination of speed and strength.”

WATCH: SIR HARLEY (3) shows off his improved box manners with an explosive victory at Cranbourne on 4 August.

SHIMA BOLT
Breeding: Apr ’19 Mepunga Blazer x Shima Song
Trainer: Andrea Dailly, Anakie
Record: 17 starts 6-2-3
Comment: A litter brother to star sprinter Shima Classic, he has made a steady start to his racing career with a couple of handy provincial wins in his first 12 starts. However, the progressive improvement shown in recent times is still growing and his last-start run when placed in good company at Sandown Park was impressive WATCH. Has brilliant speed soon after box rise and he is getting stronger with more racing over 500m. With continued growth and improvement, he is certainly one to keep a close eye on.

“Shima Bolt has brilliant speed soon after box rise and he is getting stronger with more racing over 500m.”

WATCH: SHIMA BOLT (2) began only moderately before scoring an impressive win at The Meadows on 24 July.

HUGO
Breeding: July ’19 Fernando Bale x El Marny
Trainer: Kerry Milne, Moe South
Record: 26 starts 8-7-2
Comment: Super consistent chaser who has turned in some top performances around Warragul of late including a slick 25.88sec last start victory. In his last preparation, he was twice close to winning in town but just struggled to run out the 500m. Appears a more conditioned sprinter this time around and is getting stronger with each run. A keen chaser with good track sense, I believe he is ready to take the next step and taste city success, particularly if drawn close to the rail.

“A keen chaser with good track sense, I believe Hugo is ready to take the next step and taste city success.”

WATCH: HUGO (3) cut to the rail in the blink of an eye in his impressive Warragul win on 3 August.

FABRIOLA XIMENEZ
Breeding: Sep ’19 Droopys Buick x Fabriola Allen
Trainer:  Andrea Dailly, Anakie
Record: 9 starts 3-1-1
Comment: Yet to turn two but has turned in some big performances in his short nine-race career. His eye-catching last-to-first 450m Ballarat win last start had city class middle-distance-and-beyond potential written all over it.  Still learning and expected to get better with more racing, this big striding 35kg powerhouse appears to have a bright future ahead of him.

“Fabriola Ximenez’ eye-catching last-to-first 450m Ballarat win last start had city class middle-distance-and-beyond potential written all over it.”

WATCH: FABRIOLA XIMENEZ (1) comes from the clouds to score at Ballarat on 4 August.
