Lions Quality Products Warragul Cup
Despite nearby bushfires and searing temperatures - an excellent crowd attended Friday's Group 2 Lion Quality Products Warragul Cup.
Given those conditions, Stewards in their wisdom moved the meeting back an hour, after the Traralgon twilight meeting was called off early Friday morning.
It was left to the greyhound with the least experience to win the Cup.
Major Mission, after winning his heat on the Sunday from box 1, flew from the pink, crossed the field and led all the way, scoring by 2 lengths over Jarvis Bale and Taipan Bale, in a good time for the conditions of 23.91.
Winner prepared at Altona Green by Tony Attard and handled by Mark Attard.
Place getters both trained by Graeme Bate who is still yet to win a Warragul Cup.
Major Mission - 29 months of age has now had only the 9 race starts for 5 wins and 2 placings, with stake earnings climbing to $38,000.
It was a Gala evening at Warragul with heaps of happenings on track and congratulations to the club for the Professional running of the night.

Trainer Tony Attard had his charge Major Mission all fired up. The only thing in the way of completing his mission was box 5.
Major Mission flew out of the boxes capturing the 1st split in 9.37 but locat trainer Mick Fearnley's chaser Barney was in hot pursuit. As they rounded the turn and raced up the home straight, it was mission possible for Major Mission as he dashed away 7.5 lengths in front of Wanalta Chief for Jason Thompson. A further 2 lengths away was a gallant run by Barney.
Major Mission ran 23.97 Best on Night and paid a handsome $11.10.
