About Our Warragul Club

Proudly serving the West Gippsland community for over 90 years, the Warragul & District Greyhound Racing Club Inc has been a hub for Greyhound Racing since its first Saturday Race Meeting on 30 December 1935.

Over the years, the club has evolved, moving locations and even racing on a short straight track before settling at Logan Park, where it shares facilities at 19 Howitt Street Warragul.

Our club is committed to the community and sporting groups throughout the West Gippsland Region, and we as an organisation continue to support local community groups.

Our facilities are of the highest quality and we can cater for all variations of functions and event needs, whether race day meals and beverages or to major functions of up to 220 people for sit down meals, with full beverage services.

Club Memberships are renewed on 1 July yearly, with approval of all members subject to committee consent. Darnum Slipping Track renewal are due 1 July annually, also, with a replacement key provided by club. It is to be noted that the Darnum Slipping Track does not have irrigation or drainage, which can affect its appearance and performance during extreme months and weather events. Tracks is harrowed monthly when weather permits.

History

1935 - First Race

The Warragul & District Greyhound Racing Club has been a hub of Greyhound Racing through the West Gippsland region for 90 years. We provide tailored catering and functions at our venue for all community and sporting groups. Come down Tuesday Evenings and Thursday, and Friday twilights to enjoy our hospitality. Enjoy the excitement of Greyhound Racing.

We can cater for functions of up to 220 people (sitting down) to minimum of 12 people in our Corporate Box situated on the finish line.

2012 - and beyond

The track underwent a comprehensive remodel, solidifying its reputation as a premier regional racing venue.

Over the past 5 years, the racing facility has had the following major upgrades since the track rebuild in 2012.

Empty our yards, new southern access ramp to track, with relocated wash-bays, shade sail over stir-up yards, new fencing to parade area, spray system at 400 metre & 460 metre start boxes, new 330 external seating,  LED track lighting, LED internal & external pavilion lighting, new curtains, carpet, and furniture.

Full remodeling of bar facilities. All works were completed in 2022 for people’s comfort.

Constant upgrade of surface materials on the Darnum Slipping Track for members, including access to non-race day scales on the track.

 

 

Greyhound Racing at Warragul

As a major centre for Greyhound Racing in Victoria, the club hosts over 130 race meetings per year, with racing distances of 400m, 460m, and 680m.

We are focused on Safe Racing an in providing a premium level of track surface.

Our main race days include:

🏁 Tuesday nights – Feature racing under the lights
🏁 Thursday afternoons – Fast-paced twilight racing action
🏁 Friday afternoons – Fast-paced twilight racing action
🏁 Trials – Held on Wednesdays for trainers and enthusiasts, an open trial session

Our two biggest events

Two of our biggest events on the racing calendar are:

🏁 The Warragul St Leger – Offering a $25,000 first prize, attracting top young greyhounds. Held in August Annually
🏁 The Group 2 Warragul Cup – One of Gippsland’s premier events, with a $47,000 first prize- Held during January each year

Greyhound racing at Warragul plays a significant role in the local economy, directly employing 16 permanent and casual staff, while also supporting hundreds of additional jobs and contributing around $40 million to the Gippsland region.
